Participation Agreement v1.0
This agreement is what you accept when you register an account at The School of Relational Arts. It describes what the platform is, what we ask of you as a participant, what we offer in return, and the limits of our responsibility. Read it carefully. By creating an account you confirm that you have read it, understood it, and agree to be bound by it.
1. What this platform is
The School of Relational Arts (SRA) is an online platform where independent facilitators offer sessions in relational practice, drawing on circling-informed methods and adjacent traditions of interpersonal awareness. Sessions take place live, in small groups, on our self-hosted video conferencing system at gatherings.theschoolofrelationalarts.com, or occasionally in person.
SRA is the platform operator. Facilitators are independent practitioners who use SRA to host their work. SRA approves facilitators before they may publish sessions, but facilitators are not employees of SRA, and the content, structure, and conduct of any individual session is the responsibility of the facilitator who leads it.
2. The nature of the work
Relational practice involves deliberate, attentive contact with other people. Participants are invited to notice and share what is alive in them, including feelings, sensations, reactions, and impressions of others in the group. This work can be deeply rewarding. It can also surface uncomfortable material — old griefs, present-moment vulnerability, conflict, attraction, shame, or distress.
You acknowledge the following:
- Relational practice is an educational and developmental activity. It is not psychotherapy, counseling, medical care, or a substitute for any of these.
- Facilitators are not licensed therapists in the context of their work on SRA, even where a facilitator holds professional credentials elsewhere. No therapeutic relationship is established between you and a facilitator by your participation in a session.
- Strong emotional responses, including tears, anger, dissociation, or destabilization, are possible during or after a session. You are responsible for your own care, and for seeking appropriate professional support outside the platform if you need it.
- If you are in active mental health crisis, in acute trauma response, under the influence of substances that impair consent, or otherwise not in a condition to participate safely, you agree not to join a session in that state.
3. What we ask of you
Container Care is the term we use for the agreements that make our sessions safe enough to be honest in. By registering, you commit to the following:
3.1 Eligibility
- You are at least 18 years of age.
- You are participating of your own choosing, not under coercion from a partner, employer, group, or other party.
- You have considered, honestly, whether this work is appropriate for you at this time, in light of your current mental and emotional state.
3.2 Conduct in sessions
- You will treat other participants and facilitators with respect, including those whose expression, identity, beliefs, or experience differs from your own.
- You will not engage in harassment, intimidation, slurs, or behavior that targets another participant on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, or any other protected characteristic.
- You will not use a session to solicit, recruit, sell, proselytize, or otherwise instrumentalize the group for purposes outside the practice.
- You will not initiate sexual or romantic contact with another participant during a session. What happens between consenting adults outside the platform is not ours to govern, but the session itself is not a venue for that initiation.
- You will follow the facilitator’s instructions about the structure and pacing of the practice, including invitations to pause, slow down, or step back.
- You will not record, screenshot, or otherwise capture session audio, video, or chat without the explicit consent of every person present and the facilitator. Where the facilitator has arranged a sanctioned recording, your enrollment indicates consent to that recording for the stated purpose.
3.3 Confidentiality
What is shared inside a session is shared in confidence. You may take away your own experience, insights, and learning. You may speak about the practice in general terms. You may not share, repeat, or attribute the specific disclosures of other participants outside the session. This expectation survives the end of any individual session and your eventual departure from the platform.
Confidentiality is not absolute. If you disclose a serious risk of harm to yourself or to another person, the facilitator may need to act on that information, including by contacting emergency services or platform administration.
3.4 Account integrity
- You will register under your real name, or a name by which you are consistently known to others, and you will use one account for one person.
- You will keep your contact information accurate. We communicate session details, schedule changes, and access decisions by email.
- You will not share your account credentials or allow another person to join sessions in your place.
4. The stage system and access
SRA uses a five-stage progression — Arriving, Tending, Deepening, Holding, Cultivating — that determines which sessions are visible and bookable for you. New accounts begin at Arriving. Movement between stages is based on completed practice, facilitator and peer endorsements, and the absence of substantiated concerns.
By creating an account you understand and agree that:
- Some sessions are restricted to higher stages and will not appear in your view of the platform until you reach those stages.
- Facilitators may, at their own discretion, approve, decline, or invite any participant into their own containers, regardless of stated requirements.
- Other participants and facilitators may submit ratings, endorsements, or concerns about you to platform administration. These signals can affect your stage and your access to sessions.
- Administration may, in response to substantiated concerns or in protection of community safety, issue warnings, restrict your access to specific sessions or facilitators, demote your stage, suspend your account, or terminate it, with reason logged.
- You will not see the contents of ratings about you. You may be notified that a rating has affected your stage, and you may request a conversation with administration to understand and respond to that decision.
Full details of how stages move, how concerns are validated, and how the system protects against bad-faith use are published in our Reputation & Access policy, which forms part of this agreement by reference.
5. Payments, cancellations, and credits
Payments for sessions are processed by Stripe. SRA is the merchant of record. Cancellation and refund terms are stated on each session at the time of booking. Where a refund is not the appropriate remedy, SRA may issue platform credit. Credit is not redeemable for cash.
If a facilitator cancels a session, you will be offered a refund or credit. If SRA cancels a session for operational reasons, the same applies. If you cancel inside the stated cancellation window, the outcome is governed by the policy attached to that specific session.
6. Technology and access
Sessions run on our self-hosted video conferencing system. You are responsible for your own internet connection, device, audio, and video setup. SRA will make reasonable efforts to keep the platform available, but does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Where a session is materially disrupted by SRA-side infrastructure failure, we will work with the facilitator on remedy — typically rescheduling or credit.
7. Data and privacy
To operate the platform, we collect and store:
- Your account information: name, email, hashed password, and any optional profile fields you provide.
- The timestamp and IP address of your acceptance of this agreement.
- Your enrollment, attendance, and payment history.
- Stage, ratings, endorsements, and concerns associated with your account, with the visibility rules described in our Reputation & Access policy.
- Where sanctioned recordings are made, the recording itself, for the duration and purpose stated at the session.
Stripe handles payment card data directly; SRA stores a customer reference rather than card numbers. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except as needed to operate the platform (for example, Stripe for payments) or as required by law.
You may request export or deletion of your account at any time by contacting administration. Some records — payment history, stage history, concerns and admin actions — may be retained where required by law or where they are necessary to maintain the integrity of the community record.
8. Assumption of risk and limitation of liability
You acknowledge that participation in relational practice carries inherent psychological and emotional risk, as described in Section 2 of this agreement, and that you participate voluntarily and at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release The School of Relational Arts, its operators, employees, agents, and affiliated facilitators from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action arising out of or relating to your participation, except where such claims arise from gross negligence, willful misconduct, or violation of applicable law on the part of SRA itself.
This release does not waive your right to pursue claims directly against an individual facilitator for that facilitator’s own conduct, nor does it waive any non-waivable rights you hold under the consumer protection laws of your jurisdiction.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SRA’s aggregate liability to you for any matter arising under this agreement is limited to the amount you have paid to SRA in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
9. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time from your dashboard. SRA may terminate or suspend your account at any time, with reason logged, in response to a substantiated concern, a pattern of bad-faith complaints, a violation of this agreement, or to protect the safety of the community. Where termination occurs, any active enrollments will be refunded or credited at SRA’s discretion in light of the circumstances.
10. Changes to this agreement
This agreement may be revised. Material revisions will be communicated to your registered email address with at least 14 days’ notice, and your continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. The current version is always available within your account.
11. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved through good-faith conversation with administration will be brought in the courts of British Columbia, except where applicable consumer protection law confers jurisdiction on the courts of your own province, state, or country.
12. Acknowledgement
By checking the consent box on the registration form, you confirm that:
- You have read this agreement in full.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You understand that relational practice is educational, not therapeutic, and you participate voluntarily and at your own risk.
- You commit to the conduct and confidentiality expectations of Container Care described in Section 3.
- You consent to the data handling described in Section 7.
- You accept the limitation of liability in Section 8 to the extent permitted by the law of your jurisdiction.
Record of acceptance
Your acceptance is recorded electronically on registration. The timestamp, the version of this agreement in force at that time, and the IP address from which acceptance was given are stored against your account. A copy of the agreement as accepted is available for download from your dashboard at any time.
